Creating safe schools through invitational education
It is important to make sure the schools your children are attending are safe and you have no worries about something happening to them during school hours. Schools are able to have safety with help from their surroundings. In order to be sure everyone feels safe, each person needs to do their part. Four major principles are respect, trust, optimism, and intentionality. People, places, policies, programs, and processes are part of the five P's that include every person and to make sure safety is secured. Being active in society and knowing your surroundings make the schools easier to have safety guards and protection.
This article shows that it is important to have help from surrounding people and law enforcers. They are proving that safety can happen without just help from security guards, or metal detectors. Everyone around helps to create a safe environment by following the five P's which sounds like a good idea if everyone follows through. Children need to feel safe in schools and by putting in effort from everyone helps.

Discipline in schools: top parental concern
This article talks about how parents were surveyed and the highest concern about schools their children attend was the discipline they are receiveing. The lack of discipline in schools is the biggest concern. Parents want to make sure that their children are going to behave and be disciplined so they can learn with one another.By having less discipline, the children are getting a poorer curriculum. Word of mouth was the best source for discipline thoughts, and the newspaper second. Most of the parents polled feel that today's education is better in this era, but unfortunately the dropout rate has increased. The dropout rate and discipline tie in together and people are dropping out because of the lack of discipline in the classroom.
This article gives a good repsonse and point of view from who is affected. The parents are affected by the lack of discipline in classrooms because the students come home, the same as they left. Discipline needs to be stricter so that the students can learn and not be disturbed in classrooms. This article was good and helped to understand what others thought.

Discipline, Disability, and Race: Disproportionality in Indiana Schools
This article talks about the students with disabilities and how they are disciplined in schools. Depending on the disability, a student is more likely to be disciplined differently. A student with emotional disability are at a high risk to go to the office or be suspended from school. Students of a different race such as black, were also more likely to be sent to the office than other students of a different race with the same disability. Because of the disabled and their disciplinary actions, the severity of the punishment may differ from someone who does not have disabilities. The disabled receive harsher punishments than someone who is not disabled. The small behavior that a disabled student conducts, sends them out of school for a certain amount of time while a non disabled student can conduct a crime worse than that and still be out of school for the same days. Students with disabilities are disciplined more often than students without disabilities.
This article was a good source because it showed how disabled children aren't treated with higher respect and have it easier. Discipline is equal and a little tougher on disabled students because they are harder to handle. The students all learn from each other, but if they have certain disabilities, then they cannot learn together. This article was good and it showed the differences in punishments and discipline in students who are the minorities.

Characteristics of a "Basic"Discipline in Elementary and SecondaryEducation
This article discusses the basic discipline that is taught in elementary and secondary education. Discipline should be taught throughout all of the child's education and should not stop in any certain subjects. The "basic" discipline should be easier to teach and the students should already know the basics. Science, Math, English, all teach discipline, but not in the arts. People feel that the arts are not important and there is no discipline needed. There are sixteen characteristics given in the article about discipline and what should be required for all levels of education. In short, the teacher needs to be able to focus on discipline, discipline is a self-explained word, it is taught seriously, and discipline allows students to focus and work at higher levels. If all these are applied, the student will be able to succeed in their education.
I thought that this article was detailed, but could have focused more on discipline in general not just in a certain subject. The article mainly focused on what was happening in the arts discipline and it only touched upon other subjects. Discipline shows that students can behave in classrooms so that they can learn more and have a better education. It is one of the most important jobs for the teacher to teach discipline to everyone in every subject.

Leave No Discipline Behind
The "No Child Left Behind" act focuses on making sure all students are at the same level and no student is left not understanding the lesson or a concept. This article is saying that teachers not only need to focus on making sure all students are at the same level of math, reading, etc but also focus on making discipline is enforced in the classroom. While teaching is very important, so is discipline. By focusing on intellectual skills in the classroom, cross-disciplinary actions focus on the child being more independent in connecting and using concepts. The students take state given tests in the classroom, because it is required, not realizing this, the students are being tested on their knowledge about school and their discipline. During a test, there requires silence and the students are forced to be discipline or their test will be shredded. This shows the students discipline is a major part in their education.
This article helped to show how the "No Child Left Behind" act and discipline are equal. Instead of focusing primarily on the students knowledge, they need to make discipline is strict so the students can succeed. I liked this article because it showed how the teachers need to focus on discipline in the classroom as well as their studies. By having standardized testing, it is a test of both discipline and common knowledge, which I never realized. This article helped to point out the not obvious and it was helpful.
